7 step guide to study in Canada

Study in Canada

Canada hosts half a million international students and offers globally recognized and quality education at an affordable tuition fee. With an immense amount of post study work opportunities, permanent residency and excellent quality of life Canada remains the top study abroad destination for Indian students and parents.

In 2019, 26 of Canada’s universities found their respective places in QS World University Rankings and 27 Universities in World University Rankings of 2019. At a given time, Canada hosts 5 million international students which not only supports the economy but also helps in job creation.

Plan smartly

Step 1: Define your goals

Before you jump to shortlist the university of your choice, ask yourself a simple question: why & what you want to study in Canada? Many of the applicants purely want to enhance their knowledge and skills with an ultimate goal of settlement. Researching about the cost and post study opportunities is the key at this step. Once decided, proceed with shortlisting the university & course you want to study that meets your requirements.

Step 2: Understanding the intake requirements

There are 2 available intakes for different programs in Universities & colleges. The Fall (September) and Winter (January) intakes for undergraduate & postgraduate students in a University have a deadline of December-March and September-November respectively. You also need to check the admission requirements and how far you meet those requirements.

Step 3: Appear for your English language proficiency test

This is one of the mandatory requirements for a study permit in Canada. Select an exam which is accepted in the maximum number of your shortlisted universities and start preparing for it. You must have your scores before you make your study permit application. Many universities accept your projected scores and provide you a conditional offer letter, however, it is advisable that you get ready with your scores before you apply for admission.

Step 4: Plan your funding options

By now you are aware about the budgetary aspects of your study plans, hence plan your funding. Personal savings, education loans, scholarships, assistant-ship or a mix of these options helps you manage your required funds for study in Canada.

Step 5: Apply well before the deadline!

In order to avoid any eleventh hour rush or power cuts while you upload your documents online, it is recommended that you apply well before the deadline. Every university has its own admission requirements and deadlines. Visit the respective university website regularly for updates or changes announced.

Step 6: Confirm the admission

There can be a chance that you will receive more than one acceptance letter from the universities/courses you applied for. In such a case, make a final decision which is in line with your goals and submit the non-refundable fee to the university to confirm your admission.

Step 7: Apply for Study Visa

Carefully study the requirements of the study visa and arrange the required documents. Pay the fees and wait for the outcome. On the receipt of the favorable outcome, inform your university student coordinator and finally it's time for making travel arrangements and shopping!
